"Some not so hidden treasures" - Continuing TWR's examination of "Hidden" recordings Alan Hewitt takes a look at a couple of recordings from Phil Collins' solo career which have recently surfaced.

Yes, folks, continuing the somewhat controversial (!) look at some at some of the previously "hidden" recordings this time I focus on several recordings from Phil's solo career which have surfaced into the public domain recently.

Beginning with an excellent soundboard recording from Phil's highly successful No Jacket Required tour. This one captures Phil and his band on excellent for at the first night of their stint in Melbourne during the Australian leg of the tour this recording is a MUST for all fans of this album and tour. Recently cleaned up from the original source recording, the complete show is lovingly captured here.

G-Mex Arena Manchester 29th November 1994

Moving on nine years we come to the next recording, another superb soundboard recording of Phil's second night at Manchester's G-Mex Arena, during the Both Sides World Tour An emotional night this one; Buster Edwards had died that day and Phil's rendition of A Groovy Kind Of Love took on an extra poignancy. I also have very fond memories of this gig myself as one of the lucky attendees and so to have this complete recording in such great sound quality is a rare treat!

Stravinsky Auditorium Montreux 17th July 1996

A long sought after recording, this one. The only complete document of Phil's first Big Band tour in 1996. Having seen the second tour in 1998 and thoroughly enjoying it, I was delighted when this recording finally made it into the collection. Another soundboard recording which captures the entire show in stunning quality. If you didn’t see this tour or the 1998 follow-up, this recording will give you an idea what you missed - excellent stuff!

Grand Casino Geneva 19th January 2002

A controversial recording this one, Phil was understandably furious when he heard that copies of this recording were being sold on E-Bay and elsewhere. The gig was a charitable event for the "Little Dreams Foundation" and Phil's annoyance was understandable.

Fortunately, the collecting community made sure that the E-Bay sale was short-lived and copies are being freely exchanged without money changing hands - certainly not in my case anyway, folks! This is an excellent audience recording of one of Phil's handful of gigs between 1998 and the start of his new tour - well worth a listen!
