"it" presents The Genesis Early Years Event 2005, May 15 2005, Eichenzell-Welkers.

Following our fan club events about "The Lamb...“ (2001) and “Selling England…” (1996) we decided this year to delve even deeper in the history of Genesis. We will take a good look at the band’s early year from their founding time up to 1973’s “Live” album. The programme is chock full of items to introduce you to this era (if you’re not yet familiar with it) and to expand and brush up your knowledge about Genesis releases and live performances up to the summer of 1973. Look forward to the following things:

The Exhibition
Numerous showcases and glass cupboards will present everything our collections (and those of other fans both in Germany and abroad) contain: Albums, singles, ticket stubs, tour programmes, newspaper articles, magazine reports and more. You will also be able to see posters and large-format advertisements. Material from that era is scarce and therefore these posters are extremely rare items

Video
There are, as you may know, very few films that show Gabriel-era Genesis in performance. Much of this material has either been released in good quality DVD bootlegs or found its way into the trading circuit. We are going to show you a selection of (not-so-) well-known video material that really represents what a Genesis performance in the early 70s was like.

Questions and Answers with a very special guest
We have succeeded in bringing someone very special to Welkers for you. He was with Genesis as the band took their first steps. He was with them almost all the time both in the studio and on tour and he was mentioned in the Foxtrot sleeve notes almost like a member of the band. In short, he is someone who can tell us lots and lots about Genesis. He is

Richard Macphail

We have met Richard several times before, and we know from these encounters that he is happy to talk about that time. You will have the opportunity to ask Richard all sorts of questions about Genesis – we’re sure this won’t be a boring time. The interview will take place in English.

Liveact
Everybody’s big wish was to round off the event with some live music, so we went looking for a singer or a group who would play a small live show of early material “inspired by Genesis’ first paid gig at Mrs Balms’”. We found:

Champagne Meadow

That is the name Genesis almost gave themselves, and it is the name of the group that “band leader” Steffen Gerlach is putting together especially for the “Early Years Event”. He is still working on the final line-up and the setlist, but those among you who have seen Steffen before (e.g. at the club days 1997 and 1999) also know that we are in for a real treat.

Fringe programme
There will, of course be time between the special events to get to talk to other fans. You’ll be able to buy rare and less rare Genesis goodies at the ‘it’-booth and the collectors’ market. The background music will of course be by our favourite band. Finally, there’s no need to go thirsty or hungry because these problems can be taken care of easily at moderate prices at the ‘it’-booth and the collectors’ market. Time table
The event begins at 2p.m. (entry at 1p.m.) and ends at about 8p.m. We will let you know about the details such as when certain things take place shortly before the event.

Tickets
As usual, we have to finance the event by the ticket sales. This means that it can only take place if enough tickets are sold. Tickets cost 15EUR each. Only members of the fan club may order tickets. Please follow the link below for further information on ordering tickets.

We will keep you informed if the programme should chance, and we are looking forward to welcoming as many fans as possible on May 15 in Welkers.

Yours,
the it staff
